Conscious Art™ Web Gallery

This Gallery is devoted to active members of the
Conscious Art™ Movement.  Currently the gallery
features two members whose work speaks about
particular cultural issues from a global perspective.  To
initiate dialogue with the artist, please use the "Contact
Us" link to the left.

David Shever
Working with the communications office of H.H. The
Dalai Lama of Tibet, David Shever captured these
peoples' presence and their humanity with very
engaging and honest portraits.  The comments
associated with each photograph reveal the underlying
trauma that alters our relationship with the subject.  The
photographs talk about the challenges we all face as we
deal with what societies impose on us, and as we
contribute to the direction of those societies.

His work is divided into three sets,  (1) Portraits, (2)
Journeys in Exile, (3) Tibetan Refugee Camp.  Click on

Gallery.

Kendra Webber
Kendra Webber's poetic philosophy reflects on some of
the big challenges of the human condition.  Her drive at
these core issues reveals the strong emotional content
that comes with such exploration.  She searches for
coherence in a complex social world and blazes a trail
through the frontier of personal and intercultural limits.

Sandy Kim
This collection of ceramic works by Sandy Kim presents
a broad set of metaphors on aspects of the human
condition.  The works inspire contemplation and
dialogue on concepts of self, relationships, the mind,
and our relationship to the environment.  Her work has
strong references to her experiences in anthropology
and Zen meditation, while inviting dialogue and
exploration for a broad audience that may be new to
these disciplines.

Niz
Eleanor Herasimchuck (Niz)  has been working to
increase public health awareness among at-risk youth
in a health clinic publication.  Her own personal struggle
with addiction has given her a powerfully informed
perspective of how to reach and positively inform her
audience to make better decisions.  Her work often
reflects a strong sense of taking personal responsibility
for decisions and personal improvement.  Her subtle but
highly personalized use of religious and mystical
iconography demonstrates a new way of using this
vocabulary to extend her message of healthy lifestyle,
thoughtful decision-making, and fun creativity to an
audience  steeped in religious iconography, and urban
graffiti.

Talia Moore
Talia's abstract sculptures each express particular
ideas from Aikido, a Japanese martial art that focuses
on redirecting aggressive actions rather than
responding with counter-aggression.  Her work
abstracts the tangible balance and geometry of Aikido
in an attempt to have its concepts apply to a broader
set of social interactions.  The type of Aikido she
practices treats the art rationally as skill, form, and
attitude.  Her style does not try to make Aikido more
than it is by attributing magical or spiritual qualities to
the traditions, the people, or the techniques.

Erik Moore
The Altarpiece series was part of the first set of work in
the Conscious Art movement.  It broke the barrier of the
innocuously beautiful and began an exploration for
understanding and a sharing of ideas that merged art,
science, psychology, and philosophy into one holistic
experience.  These Altarpieces raise questions about
how we use belief in our lives, and how we respond to
cultural assumptions.

Erik Moore's trek up Mt. Fuji as a traditional Japanese
pilgrim reveals a contrast of identity that is common in
cultural traditions as they interact with modern society
and people from outside their tradition.  He poses
questions regarding the future and adaptation of such
traditions as a coherent global perspective based on
reason supplants traditional world-views.  Since 1994,
his work is now on permanent exhibit at the Sea of
Clouds on the north slope of Mt. Fuji.  See here for a
more
in-depth biography of the artist.
