Saint Sebastian
These arrows are real, sharp, hunting arrows entering on the right, and converging back on the viewer from the left. Unlike a romantic notion of human sacrifice, there is an element of danger for the viewer. Helping to bring it into the present is a set of numbers on the post, stenciled in place of a name.
Human sacrifice is not so neat as this, yet viewing this on in person is not so romantic either. The visually whole form contrasts strongly with the normal gallery experience as its projections threaten the viewer in their own space. They implore the casual observer to "wake up." What sacrifice might you make today?
